Roy Felix Bennett escapes death
Well known Gill Street resident Roy Bennett, 26, also known as Roy Felix, is lucky to be alive after a gunman, who was in the company of another man, fired several shots at him and his friend at about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, while they were shopping at a Chinese Store, located at corner Fabers Road and Nurse Findley Crescent.
Bennett was shot in his side, while his friend, Paul Sambula, 18, of Jabiru Street, Belize City, was shot on his right hand and in his back.
Sambula and Bennett were taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where doctors attended to them. They are said to be in a stable condition.
Police reports are that while Bennett and Sambula were at the Chinese store, two men rode up on bicycles, one of who took out a gun and fired at the men.
Reports are that Bennett and his friend ran to a house nearby after they were hit, and occupants of the home quickly took them to the hospital.
The shooters, who quickly fled the scene, have not yet been found, and police continue to investigate.
Roy Bennett is no stranger to police, who also know him as Roy Felix. On July 15, 2010, Bennett was shot in the same area, at the corner of Fabers Road and Nurse Findley Crescent, and there have been other attempts on his life.
He is the brother of Farron and Curlin Felix, who were both killed in gun violence, and the son of Therese Felix, who started a movement called “Mothers Against Violence.” Therese Felix died in 2008 after Farron, 16, was brutally shot and killed on Central American Boulevard. He was heading home, after doing an errand for his mother on Mother’s Day 2006.
