23rd February, 1970
The Honourable V. H. Courtenay, Esq.,
Attorney General,
Attorney General’s Chambers,
Belize City.
Dear Attorney General,
Thank you for your letter of 21st February, 1970, enclosing a copy of the publication “Amandala.”
I became aware of the article to which you refer, on Friday 20th February, and had already this matter under consideration, as well as certain verbal utterances made from the CIVIC rostrum on the night of Thursday 19th instant, in rather similar context.
I share your concern for the protection and preservation of our institutions of the administration of justice, and I assure you that in this connection I shall act judicially in the discharge of my constitutional responsibilities, and in exercise of the unfettered discretion sacredly entrusted to me.
Yours faithfully,
(A.L. STAINE)
Director of Public Prosecutions
