It gets no bigger than this. Week 6, the final playoff week in the Belize Bank Super League Tournament 2011 comes up this Sunday, July 10, with two big games – one in Placencia and the other in Punta Gorda. Four teams are battling for two spots in the championship finals, a best-of-3 games series which begins the following week. It’s “money time”, as getting to the finals guarantees each club at least the 2nd prize of $10,000.00; the champion gets $25,000.00.
Super League Playoff Week 6 schedule:
Sunday, July 10
3:30 p.m. – Placencia Assassin vs R.G. City Boys United – Placencia Football Field
4:00 p.m. – Paradise/Freedom Fighters vs Orange Walk United – Toledo Union Field
In their last playoff meeting in Belize City, City Boys dropped Placencia, 3-0; but Placencia has not lost at home so far in the playoff. In the other match-up, the home team also prevailed, as Orange Walk won 1-nil when they met Paradise/Freedom Fighters at People’s Stadium. And Paradise has won both home games so far in the playoffs.
Throughout the competition, Super League club managers and coaches have lamented that their star players are sharing themselves between competitions – Super League, Mayor’s Cup, and lately the Belize City Champions Cup. This Sunday, players will be making touch choices, and perhaps bargaining, as the Mayor’s Cup is also in a “do or die” situation.

The Top 6 playoffs get under way this Sunday with a big triple header at the Carl Ramos Stadium:
Sunday, July 10
3:00 p.m. – Rivas Strikers vs Lesli Commercial
5:30 p.m. – Ghans vs Youth For The Future
7:00 p.m. – New Site vs Southside
The 3 winners will advance to the Top 4 semifinals next weekend, along with the best loser (with the most goals) from among the 3 losers on Sunday.
