BELMOPAN, Sun. Jan. 17, 2021– The family of 19-year-old Walter Axcel Gonzalez is mourning his tragic death. On Sunday night he was stabbed by his stepfather, Javier Zalan Choc, 35, after the men, both reportedly under the influence of alcohol, got into a squabble. Reports are that Choc went to the family residence, and started an argument with Gonzalez’ mother, which resulted in a physical altercation that ended with a single fatal stab wound being inflicted on the victim.

When family members of the deceased were interviewed, they revealed that the young Gonzalez would oftentimes come to the defense of his mother when he would see Choc attempting to abuse her. They also said that this was not the first time that the two men got into a fight, and that it was a regular occurrence, oftentimes fueled by alcohol.

A cousin of the deceased, who was also an eyewitness of the tragic incident, told local media, “Axcel went running to grab Javier’s bike to dash it on top of him, and right there Javier come and shove him over there, and right there the knife come out and he took the knife and stabbed, and the blade come out clean without a drip of blood.”

Police are currently searching for 35-year-old Javier Zalan Choc for the murder of his stepson, Walter Gonzalez. An investigation is ongoing.
