The 2007 Inter-Club Tennis Finals for the Edward “Billy” Musa Shield was played over the weekend at The Belmopan Tennis Courts and The Belize Pickwick Club Tennis Courts.
It was the best of seven matches; namely A, B, C, Men’s Doubles, A, B, Men’s Singles, an Open Ladies Doubles, and an Open Ladies Singles.
The Open Ladies Doubles, the Men’s “B” Doubles, and the Men’s “A” Singles were played on Saturday, June 23rd at the Belmopan Tennis Courts.
The Ladies Doubles was well contested. We saw all four ladies give it their all, and played very competitive and crafty tennis. Samira Musa Pott & Maureen Utsman from the Belize Pickwick Club defeated Lauren Mena & Marlaine Anderson 6-4, 0-6, 6-4.
In the Men’s “B” Doubles, we also saw some well played points by all four gentlemen. In the end it was The Belize Pickwick Club’s Team of Curtis Musa & Eamon Courtenay who defeated Belmopan’s Bryan Mena & Erickson Lamb 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.
In the final match of the evening in Belmopan, we saw Michael Meighan of Pickwick’s Team going up against Omar Arzu of the Belmopan’s Tennis Team. This “A” Singles match saw both players coming out with a bang, both hitting their power shots. However, in the end it was Michael Meighan who defeated Omar Arzu in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
The other four matches were played on Sunday, June 24th at The Belize Pickwick Club. In the Men’s “A” Doubles, it was Michael Meighan & Stefan Musa from the Belize Pickwick Club who defeated Omar Arzu & Ralph Tatum of Belmopan in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
In the Men’s “C” Doubles, we saw Billy Musa, Jr. & Yasser Musa from the Belize Pickwick Club defeating Matthew Hulse & Jon Laasner from Belmopan’s Tennis Club in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.
In the Ladies Open Singles, Samira Musa Pott from the Belize Pickwick Club defeated Lauren Mena from the Belmopan Tennis Team in straight sets 6-1, 6-1; and in the “B” Men’s Singles category, it was Stefan Musa from the Belize Pickwick Club who defeated Matthew Hulse from the Belmopan Tennis Club in straight sets 6-2, 6-2; hence, the Belize Pickwick Club Tennis Team’s overwhelming victory over the Belmopan Tennis Club. This is the third consecutive year that the Belize Pickwick Club has won this tournament.
The Tennis Team Captains from both Clubs were presented with their Miniature First and Second Place Shields by Mrs. Rose Musa. Both Captains gave their commitment to the continued support of this tournament and The Belize Tennis Association.
The President and Vice President of the Belize Tennis Association thanked the Sponsor, the Belize Pickwick Club, and the Belmopan Tennis Club for sponsoring and hosting the tournament, respectively.
