The great Ganzie gets life!

GeneralThe great Ganzie gets life!
Reggae singer Louis “Louie Ganzie” Gentle, 30, who was found guilty of the murder of his ex-common law wife, Takeisha Sutherland, 28, was sentenced to life imprisonment today by Justice Troadio John Gonzalez.

Justice Gonzalez imposed the sentence after he heard pleas for mitigation from Ganzie and his attorney, Darrell Bradley.

In his plea, Ganzie expressed no remorse for stabbing Sutherland 21 times around 4 a.m. on January 3, 2007. He continued to maintain that he was innocent, and said that he was sorry that Takeisha was dead.

Bradley spoke about Ganzie’s career as a musician and singer, and that he had been involved in community service. He also said that Ganzie is the father of 7 children.

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl Lynn Branker-Taitt, represented the prosecution.

The incident occurred at Sutherland’s home on Racoon Street, where she lived with her 5 children, two of them fathered by Ganzie, and her grandmother, Gilda Johnson.

During the trial Ganzie denied that he committed the murder. He claimed that at the time of the incident he was at the house of his friend, Roy Zelaya, who resides on Sarstoon Street. Zelaya had testified and corroborated Ganzie’s alibi testimony.

The jury did not believe Ganzie nor Zelaya and found Ganzie guilty.
