LettersThe man from Finca Solana

In the Amandala editorial published on October 23, 2005, titled ?A child?s cry for help,? it says that: ?As taxpayers, we appeal to the Government of Belize to invest in a structured and focused program to help these ailing children and their families, to ensure that they are given a fair chance at life. It would greatly please families to know that if their children are in need of critical medical care, there is a specific place where they can go for help. Mr. Ashcroft does not need the millions: our suffering children do.?

I believe that one of the mistakes was to move Jesus Ken?s plan of justice for those involved in the sugar industry out of the ?Royal Family? way. The children of those days and today are suffering the consequences of such decision. The same decisions were taken by the two major political parties? GOB in respect to the tourism industry of our country. It seems as if the ?sons of the Baymen?s clan? are doing the same thing their fathers did. After seven years of a modern PUP administration there is no advance in the poverty alleviation program for those of us who are living in such conditions.

I don?t know if the UDP can do anything. I don?t think Barrow has what it takes to be a Che Guevara, Martin Luther King or a Hugo Chavez. But probably at the last moment Said Musa would want to be a Hugo Chavez for those of us, the less fortunate ones.

I am not begging for anything. All that is in the territory of the nation of Belize is for the Belizeans. To start with, all those tourists that want to enjoy what our Belize has, should pay US$20.00 per person as an entry fee. All that money should go to health, education, food and shelter, not into a few pockets and discourses of goodwill salaries. Our Maya sites and ancient temples, our sea, cayes, islands, land, flora and fauna, etc. were not made by the Spaniards or the British for them and the few of their greedy offspring to come and continue stealing our rights.

If none of the two major political parties can do something good for the oppressed ones, then we shall wait for our Hugo Chavez, Martin Luther King, or Che Guevara to start a ?National Labour Party.? There were those who had the opportunity to seriously serve the people of Belize, but they decided to go elsewhere to serve themselves. It?s a pity for those of us that cannot see. We need social justice, more social justice and much more social justice. But the only way is through a rebirth. History is there to remind us about the two major political parties? behavior.

Respectfully,

(Signed)
