As I said before, politics is a career where a person has to dedicate time and energy. Let me add to it another important thing, which is called money.

One of our cultural mistakes is to believe that the best time to enter the political arena is when you are retired or when you receive an academic degree. If you don?t have the character to be a politician, don?t get into it. A politician should be a good actor. He/she has to show that they care for the people in general. They also need to be very good administrators. An administrator is one who knows about accounts, buying and selling (transactions), public relations, human resources, services and many other business tricks.

We as a young and inexperienced ?nation people? don?t know as yet that there are very good non-academic administrators that have and will become some of our best leaders in the future. These are born leaders. We had a few that were probably ahead of their time, such as Antonio Soberanis Gomez, Jesus Ken, etc. I am sure that there were many others of other ethnic groups that had fought for our people without looking at the colour of our skin, just a ?Belizean soil brotherhood thing.?

Probably there is someone out there who would like to teach those of us that do not know but want to learn about our national born ethnic leaders that were not blessed with an academic education, but had left a message for us to pick up and fight for.

If you want to be a successful politician then you have to start thinking on how to help the people before getting into power; that is why you need to have money. Have you ever been to a clinic, hospital, jail to see if someone was in need of your help? The truth is that you won?t have enough money to help everyone, but at least with a motor car you can take elderly to the clinic. You can take a message from a hospitalized person to their family or you can get involved with the human development Poverty Alleviation Department to help children and parents who are living in poverty. There are many things a person that wants to be a politician can start doing for the people to gain the right to ask citizens for their votes.

The culture style to go and demand from the citizens for their votes three months before elections, ought to be considered as insulting to our Belizean people. Do you imagine the ?runaway slaves? of the Baymen?s colony today would be putting their right hand over their heart and giving adoration to their masters by singing the words ?Arise! Ye sons of the Baymen?s clan??
