TIDE Junior FWC Semifinals today, Finals on Friday

The TIDE Junior Freshwater Cup (FWC) 2014 football tournament has reached the playoff stage, and the semifinals for primary school female and male teams were played today at the Julian Cho Technical High School grounds, with the first game kicking off at 9:00 a.m. sharp.

In the first semifinal, San Pedro Columbia Boys and Silver Creek Boys drew 1-1 in regulation. Wilson Cho (11’) put Silver Creek in front, but Patrick Cus (17’) equalized for San Pedro Columbia. In the penalty shootout which followed, Silver Creek defeated Columbia and now will go on to the Finals.

Next it was San Pedro Columbia Girls also drawing 0-0 in regulation against San Miguel Girls in the first female semifinal. In the penalty shootout, San Miguel defeated Columbia and now will go to the Finals.

The second male semifinal saw St. Peter Claver Boys defeating Bladen Boys, 3-1, with a goal apiece from Andre Vernon (20’), Ralston Lopez (26’) and Andres Miranda (40’); while Elder Vasquez (37’) got the only goal for Bladen Boys. St. Peter Claver Boys will go to the Finals.

And in the second female semifinal, St. Peter Claver Girls blanked Trio Girls, 4-0, with 3 goals from Normalee Gomez (18’, 29’ & 37’) and the other by Leah Mariano (31’). St. Peter Claver Girls will therefore go on to the Finals.

In the 3rd place games which followed, San Pedro Columbia Boys defeated Bladen Boys by penalty kicks; and San Pedro Columbia Girls edged Trio Girls for 3rd place by a score of 3-2.

Finals and awards

The FWC Finals and awards ceremony are scheduled for this coming Friday at the Toledo Union Field.

Friday, June 20
9:00 a.m. – Silver Creek Boys vs St. Peter Claver Boys
10:00 a.m. – San Miguel Girls vs St. Peter Claver Girls.
