Tourist caught drinking and urinating at archaeological site

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Aug. 5, 2019– Over the weekend, two pictures taken at a Mayan archaeological site that were posted on social media were met with outrage by Belizeans and prompted the National Institute of History and Culture (NICH) to issue a statement.
In one incident, a tourist was photographed drinking a bottle of beer at one of the sites. NICH has a strict no-drinking policy at archaeological sites. The other photograph showed the same tourist with his pants pulled down, and he appeared to be urinating.

The tourist quickly posted an apology on his Facebook page and asked for forgiveness.

“I absolutely beg your forgiveness. I meant no disrespect. This was not supposed to be a bad or mocking thing. I apologize with my entire heart. I am so sorry. I come to Belize every year. We love the Mayan culture we love the history we love everything about it. I am sorry I meant no disrespect and my actions were foolish,” the tourist wrote.
