Kevin Villafranco, 10, has died after being hit from behind by a vehicle allegedly driven by Josue Tellos, 27, a welder of Camalote Village, Cayo District.
Villafranco, a student and resident of Hope Creek Village, Stann Creek District, had not even completed the enjoyment of his 10th birthday on Saturday, October 30, 2010, when he was killed.
The incident took place on Saturday around 4:45 p.m. on the Stann Creek Valley Road, between Miles 8 and 9. Villafranco had been riding his bicycle on the right side of the road, towards Pomona Village from the direction of Dangriga Town.
This was when he was hit from behind by a red Toyota pickup, license plate #CY-C-29213, being driven by Tellos heading in the same direction of Pomona Village. Villafranco was thrown from off his bike to the ground, where he immediately succumbed to massive head and body injuries.
Tellos has since been charged with 6 charges – manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, failure to stop and render aid, failure to report the accident and driving a motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit.
