Tragedy in Los Angeles

GeneralTragedy in Los Angeles

Players then decided to go clubbing on their way home. Going southbound on Western Avenue, approaching Exposition Boulevard, Edney had the green light to go. In another car, behind Edney, was teammate Vince Pascascio, who saw it all.

A blue BMW coming west-bound on Exposition Boulevard, at 65 mph to 80 mph, plowed right into Edney?s Camry. The impact sent the Camry about 20 feet into a street pole. Vince got out of his car and checked his friend?s pulse.

Sadly, his best friend was gone. On the spot. The driver of the BMW, a Chinese man about 25 years old, came out unhurt, and asked if everything was all right. The police and ambulance came, and while they were investigating, another person started moving and crying out in pain.

At first, eyewitnesses thought this was a pedestrian. Nobody saw him in Edney?s car.

After checking, it was discovered that the victim on the ground had no I.D. It appeared to have been stolen by bystanders. Edney was taken to the Kaiser Hospital, and the other person taken to Cedar Cinai.

The next day, all the other players were accounted for, except Earwin ?Speedy? Bowers. The assumptions were that maybe he went to Las Vegas, or maybe to a girl, but these proved to be negative. Everyone became worried, as they knew Edney and Bowers had been hanging out together.

We all knew by this time that Edney was gone. But where was Speedy Bowers? No one saw him get into the car with Edney.

Then came a breakthrough when a family friend in the L.A Police Department spoke to the investigating officers, who then described to her the exact description of Earwin ?Speedy? Bowers. The assumption is that ?he was thrown out the car on impact.? It seems he had fallen asleep in the car, with the seat tilted backwards.

His family was then notified, and his mother and sister rushed to the hospital, to find Speedy in critical, next ?to coma condition.?

All our prayers and hope are for the young athlete to make it through.
