Stann Creek District, Mon. May 3, 2021– Police are currently investigating two fatal incidents which took place on the Southern Highway on Saturday, May 1, 2021.

Police can confirm that one of the fatal incidents was a hit-and-run which took the life of Valentino Cal. Cal, a Belizean labourer of Santa Rosa Village, was found motionless by police. According to police, they discovered, during an investigation of the incident, that he died as a result of a hit-and-run collision.

The other incident is currently still being investigated, since there was evidence of possible physical assault on the body of the 60-year-old victim, Francisco Bah. Police are currently awaiting the results of a post-mortem exam on Bah’s body to confirm the cause of his death, although police concluded after an initial investigation following the discovery of his lifeless body that he was also a victim of a fatal hit-and-run accident.

Recently the country has been seeing a rise in the number of fatalities caused by road traffic accidents.
