Usher’s bail hearing adjourned

GeneralUsher’s bail hearing adjourned

BELIZE CITY, Fri. Oct. 22, 2021 –The bail hearing for Darrell “Tutsi” Usher, an ex-police officer found in possession of a firearm believed to have been used in the fatal shooting of Biscayne resident Geovanni Augustine, 25, was adjourned on Friday until Monday, October 25, following the prosecution’s inability to reach a decision on whether they intended to object to bail or not. The prosecution asserted in court that the Usher case is a critical matter and they must proceed with caution, and further highlighted the fact that multiple investigations are ongoing, with Usher being at the cornerstone of them. Justice Herbert Lord, who was presiding over the trial, thus granted Crown Counsel Sheiniza Smith an adjournment on the basis of her claim that an in-depth inquiry had to be carried out into Usher’s criminal history.

Usher’s lawyer, Richard “Dickie” Bradley, however, insisted that there must be some vendetta against his client, for he was denied bail due to a baseless claim. Bradley stated that Smith was unable to provide any substantive evidence and was unable to offer a position on whether or not the prosecution was objecting to bail. Bradley noted that if the prosecution had taken a position in the bail hearing, their case would have been trampled by the law, for they would have been unable to properly present their accusation. The move was all a play to extend Usher’s stay at the Belize Central Prison, claimed Bradley.

Usher was found in possession of the purported murder weapon on October 16 when police officers searched his car. He has insisted, however, that the Police Department had solicited his assistance in retrieving the gun, and he had not yet delivered it to the police station when his car was searched. Usher was arraigned and remanded to the Belize Central Prison as a result.
