CrimeVehicle burglarized; $5,000 worth of tools stolen

A vehicle parked in a mechanic shop was broken into and thieves got away with over $5,000 worth of tools.

Howell Grinage, 56, a vehicle mechanic of Joseito Layout in Corozal, who was in charge of the vehicle at the time, reported that the vehicle was broken into sometime between 10:15 Tuesday night and 8:00 yesterday morning. He told police that he had locked the vehicle, but on his return to the shop yesterday, he found that the driver’s side window was broken, giving thieves access into the car.

Grinage said that in the vehicle at the time were two containers of assorted tools, one green, measuring 15 inches, and one grey, measuring 12 inches in length. Ninety-five percent of the tools were Craftsman tools, valued at $5,000.

Police were informed of the robbery and began an investigation to recover the tools and capture the thief or thieves. So far no one has been arrested, nor the items recovered

Grinage said that the vehicle is a grey Nissan Urvan with L/P OW-C OOO48 — the property of A&R Company.

The police remind the public not to buy stolen goods. If they have any information concerning this theft or any other crimes in the district, they are urged to contact the Corozal police at 402-0022, or they can also contact Assistant Superintendent Andrew Ramirez, Commanding Officer of Corozal District Police, at 607-8577.
