SANDHILL, Belize District, Wed. Sept. 16, 2020– Yesterday afternoon, the body of Victor Hugo Pratt, 33, formerly of Belama, Belize City, who was a resident of Santana, Belize District, was found just off the right side of the Old Northern Highway, about a mile away from its junction with the Philip Goldson Highway, in Sandhill.
Police said that on their arrival on the scene at about Mile 18 ½ on the Philip Goldson Highway, they found Pratt under a motorcycle. He was declared dead on arrival at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
It was presumed that Pratt had been driving his motorcycle toward Sandhill on his way to Belize City around 2:30 yesterday afternoon, and somehow lost control of the motorcycle and crashed.
His sister told the media that she visited the scene and there was no indication that Pratt had been knocked down. The motorcycle was not damaged, and Pratt had injuries on his foot.
Reports are now indicating that a bullet wound was subsequently found in Pratt’s chest during a post-mortem examination of his body, and that the investigation into his death has now become a murder investigation.
According to reports, his death did not result from a traffic accident, but from the gunshot wound, which led to massive internal bleeding. The shot, according to one report, “tore apart the lungs, pericardial sac and aortic arc of the heart, likely causing near-immediate death from organ failure.”
Pratt was the father of two children and was the eldest of 11 children.
