Violet Agatha Stewart Myles is 102 and counting!

FeaturesViolet Agatha Stewart Myles is 102 and counting!

But for Sis Myles, another year is a blessing, and she credits her long life to ?Jesus Christ, her loving Savior.?

On Tuesday of this week, Amandala spoke with ?Sis Myles.? She complained of experiencing mild pain in the chest, and is scheduled to visit her doctor sometime this week, but she is still able to cook, wash, and clean for herself, and is not afraid to live alone.

According to Sis Myles, there is nothing that she fears, as her Lord is her Savior.

Sis Myles was born in Jamaica on February 25, 1903, to Lucinda Stewart (now deceased) in the beautiful countryside of Luciana, St. Mary?s, but was reared by her grandmother from the age of only 7 months.

At the age of 20, she gave her life to Christ and became a Christian.

On September 28, 1928, she became a cadet at the Training Garrison (Training School for Officers) in Kingston, Jamaica, and on June 29, 1929, she was commissioned as a probationary captain. On July 8, 1929, at the age of 26, she came to Belize on a ship called the ?Canadian Shopper,? which marked the last day that that ship set sail for Belize, said Sis Myles.

Because of her age, she works a little less now, but says that what makes her happy is the fact that even though she sometimes forgets some things, she can still remember a lot.

Sis Myles remember that when she was first filling out an application form and she was asked to put in her middle name, she had none, and thought about an aunt she loved dearly, who is now deceased, and said she decided to take that aunt?s name (Agatha), as she was only known as Violet Stewart before marriage.

Harold and Violet only knew each other for 4 years before they were married, in 1957, when she was 43.

Her life?s partner, whom she still remembers dearly, was a great help and comfort to her, until the day she lost him in 1985, she said. The sudden and mysterious disappearance of her husband was a turning point in her life.

She recalled that when she and her husband were traveling to California, via Mexico, they stopped to tour Mexico for a few hours before the flight was due to leave for California. Little did she know that the day was going to turn out to be a nightmare, and after weeks of searching for her husband, they never found him.

But as she continues life with God?s grace and power, she said that she hopes to live a little longer, as she is very grateful for her 102 years on this earth.

She continues to serve the Lord and in doing so, volunteers her service at the Salvation Army Church, but said she is taking it easy right now.

Sis Myles has no other living relative in Belize that she can recall, and from the time she came to Belize, she has never gone back home to Jamaica.
