A wanted man, Robert Locke, 25, of Corozal, who has been on the run from Corozal police, on charges of rape, aggravated assault, and wounding, was captured in Corozal during a special operation conducted by police.

Police announced that Locke was apprehended in Corozal on Good Friday, and charges have been levied against him.

Locke was taken to the Corozal Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, and was charged with rape, (2) counts of aggravated assault, (1) count of harm and a count of wounding. He was remanded to prison until May 29.

Police said that Locke, at 3:00 Wednesday morning, April 16, went to the home of his common-law wife in Corozal, and after accusing her of having an affair with another man, punched her on the left side of her face.

The woman’s mother, who was awakened by the disturbance, went to see what was happening and saw her son-in-law beating her daughter, and she went to her aid.

Police reported that Locke then left the house and went for a machete. He came back and chopped his mother-in-law on her right arm, and lashed his common-law wife with the machete on her left elbow, and then ran out of the house.

Police carried out a search for Locke, but he had escaped.

Police later issued medico-legal forms to Locke’s common-law wife and her mother, who were taken to the Corozal Hospital, where a doctor certified the woman’s injuries as harm, and her mother’s injuries as wounding.

The second person on the wanted poster issued by Corozal police is Alex Reid, who remains on the run. He is wanted for armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm in Corozal.

Reid is also wanted on multiple charges of robbery and murder in San Ignacio.
