Weekend shootings leave two injured

GeneralWeekend shootings leave two injured

BELIZE CITY, Mon. May 3, 2021– Over the weekend police responded to two shooting incidents within the same area, on the same day. The gunplay resulted in injuries to two men who are currently being treated at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).

Reports from police are that on Friday afternoon, 19-year-old Michael Welch was shot while standing on the corner of Berkeley and George Streets. Police say that a lone gunman approached him and fired several shots in his direction, and he was hit once. The shooting is believed to be the result of a dispute which reportedly originated over a bike. Welch was reportedly threatened, and subsequently was shot. He is currently admitted at the KHMH.

The dispute seems to be an isolated disagreement, unrelated to any other feuds or rivalries.

Later on that night, a little before 11 o’clock, Brian Neal was wounded in the buttocks by bullets fired by two gunmen who snuck up from behind him and fired several shots. He too was also hit once and was rushed to the KHMH, where he is also admitted in a stable condition.

Police said that they are currently engaged in mediation and other operations in that area.
