SportsWelders shut-up Shattaz in Guinness 9-Ball Tournament in Belmopan
The first round of the Guiness 9-ball tournament in the City of Belmopan came to an end last weekend with three teams edging their opponents by 3-2, thus indicating that the matches are extremely competitive.

On Saturday, at Las Flores Bar, it was the Cardinal Pharmacy SharpShooters defeating Las Flores by 3-2.  Las Flores took the first win, with Oscar Avelar embarrassing Ernest “Puff” Borland, 4-1. Then, it was retribution time as the SharpShooters sent Chino to send home David Menjibar, 4-1. The third game was between Clifford King of SharpShooters and Salvador Orellena of Las Flores, and this game went down to the wire, with Salvador getting the edge over King, 4-3. The game was back and forth to the end, with both players getting an opportunity to finish the game, but failed on several attempts. Fourth to win for the SharpShooters was Erwin Woodye, Jr., who won over Melquin Alvarenga, 4-1. The last game of this match saw Daniel Cordon playing his first game of the tournament for the SharpShooters, and edging Elias Hernandez of Las Flores by 4-3.

On Sunday, the match of the week was played between the tournament leader, Salvapan Shattaz, and Donaldo’s Welders, to determine who is the better team of Caprichos Bar. The Shattaz had been undefeated, beating two teams 5-zip before this match, and they were indicating that the Welders were next. However, the Welders welded the mouth of the Shattaz and the pockets of the pool table, to have the bragging rights of Caprichos Bar, by winning by 3-2. The Welders took the first 3 matches played, with Donaldo Murillo burning Anthony Peralta 4-1 in the first, Luis Palma blanking Jose Palma 4-zip in the second, and Santiago “Sam” Yam embarrassing Moises Aguirre, 4-1. The last two matches were won by the Shattaz, with Erwin “Big Chino” Paredes scraping Raul Rodriquez, 4-3, and Cyrus Mira shooting out Mario Lopez, 4-2.

At the same time on Sunday, it was the Special Effects Spoilers living up to their name “Spoilers”, as they were successful in their game over Magnificent -7. The first match was won by Magnificent-7, with Juan “Maestro” Villanueva roughing up Alvarick “Nally” Buy, 4-1. However, in the second match, Edmund “Eggy” Guy, a rookie of the Spoilers, and a dangerous player who had blood in his eyes, burned “hired gun”, Pedro Escobar of Magnificent-7, 4-3. In the third match, Bruce Pelayo of Magnificent-7 demonstrated his skills, as he blanked Adan Cal of Spoilers, 4-zip. The fourth match saw Hamed Abadi, another real and rough rookie of the Spoilers, come up big, as he made senior player Densford Mangar look like he was the rookie, by defeating him, 4-2. Finally, Joe Waight of Spoilers measured his shots perfectly to put a thrashing on Aaron Richards of Magnificent-7, 4-zip. At the end of the match, it was Special Effect Spoilers feeling proud of themselves, as they were victorious, 3-2.

Top Shooters of the week were: Joe Waight of Spoilers, Luis Palma of Donaldo Welders, and Bruce Pelayo of Magnificent-7, who defeated their opponents, 4-ZIP.
