COROZAL TOWN, Tues. Dec. 29, 2020– Cecilia Nah, 27, a domestic of Canlum, Corozal District, died from injuries she received in a traffic accident on Christmas Day. At 7:30 p.m., investigators visited the Patchakan/Xaibe Road, where they found a 2007 Nissan X-Trail motor vehicle on the right side of the road. The right front bumper of the vehicle was damaged and its right front light had been broken.
The driver of the vehicle was found to be Ralph Rashen Ruiz, 26, a mechanic of Patchakan Village, who reported that he was driving the vehicle on the aforementioned road when he saw a female, later identified as Cecilia Nah, and two children walking in the middle of the road.
According to Ruiz, the two children ran into his lane and in an effort to avoid hitting them, he swerved and knocked down Nah, who was in the middle of the road.
Nah was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital via ambulance. It was learned that the doctor on duty at the hospital notified investigators that Nah was severely intoxicated at the time she was admitted. She succumbed to her injuries at 10:26 p.m.
Ruiz was served with a notice of intended prosecution and was released pending investigation.
