STANN CREEK DISTRICT, Wed. Jan. 20, 2016–A man who is the stepfather of a girl, 13, is in police custody on charges of rape, aggravated assault and threatening words.

The child told police that her stepfather raped her on two occasions, when her mother was not at home.

The child told her uncle what was happening, and they both went to Dangriga police at about 2:15 p.m. yesterday. She told police that at about 3:30 on Thursday afternoon, after she came from school, her stepfather pulled her in a bungalow house, tied both her hands behind her, covered her mouth and eyes with a rag and then put a knife on the side of her neck. He then raped her.

The child told police that on Friday, when she came home after school, her stepfather again tied her up, blindfolded her eyes and covered her mouth, threatened her, and raped her.

Police took the girl to be examined by a doctor at the Southern Regional Hospital, and after the examination, a doctor certified that the girl had been carnally known.

The stepfather was immediately arrested. He has been detained pending arraignment at the Dangriga Magistrate’s Court.
