Zero Hunger in Quintana Roo

FeaturesZero Hunger in Quintana Roo

It is a pleasure to learn that the well-being of our sisters and brothers from the State of Quintana Roo has received due attention during this pandemic that has affected the most needy families. The state of Quintana Roo, which has 11 municipalities, has 1,857,985 inhabitants, with Benito Juarez (which has 911,503 inhabitants) being the largest municipality in terms of population size and Othón P. Blanco being the third largest, with 233,648 inhabitants.

It is amazing to see how a very large inhabited state with so many people has the resources to go out and help the most needy families so that they don’t have to undergo hunger and starvation during this chaos. The strategy which was set up by the governor, with the participation of the citizens and the private sector, was well-organized to address the needs of the less fortunate ones. Permit me, our dear readers of this column, to present the following information which was extracted from the website (click here)

Quintana Roo, among the States with the greatest decrease in working poverty
November 25, 2021
(See article here)
Chetumal, Quintana Roo. — According to the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL), during 2020 the labor poverty index increased at the national level; however, through the actions that Governor Carlos Joaquín undertook jointly with business sectors and civil society organizations, this year Quintana Roo was among the top 3 entities in recovery. Regarding the information presented about working poverty in Mexico, during the second and third quarters of 2021, Quintana Roo achieved a decrease of 4.3 percent in this indicator, which places it in the first place at the national level according to the methodological evaluation mechanisms of this Council. In this regard, the Secretary of Social Development, Rocío Moreno Mendoza, stated that “Quintana Roo was affected by the pandemic, but thanks to the strategies of the state government that allowed the return of economic activities and timely attention in the various sectors, is recovering its growth in work activities and therefore in the well-being of its people”. The health emergency and the economic crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic during 2020 impacted the social policies of Quintana Roo; however, today activities have been resumed and the programs that contribute to the economic recovery of the State have resumed.
