11 injured in road traffic accident

MILE 34, PHILIP GOLDSON HIGHWAY, Belize District, Thurs. Dec. 17, 2015–Eleven people received varying degrees of injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned between Miles 34 and 35 on the Philip Goldson Highway at about 4:30 this afternoon.

Six of the injured persons were taken to the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk, and five were brought down to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle reported that he was travelling to Orange Walk Town from Belmopan and upon his arrival in the area, the vehicle suffered a tire blowout, causing him to lose control, and the vehicle ran off the road and overturned.

An ambulance and police went to the scene, and the injured were taken for medical attention.

Police have begun an investigation into the accident.
