SportsDEFENDING CHAMPS BELIZE CITY COUNCIL LEADS DIVISION A WITH PERFECT 4-0 RECORD
Interoffice basketball continued this past Monday night at the City Center with three games being played. In the first game of the night, the Roe Group of Companies handed the Police Dept. their second loss of the season, defeating them by the final score of 54-39. Mark Swift 18 pts 4 rebs and Francis Lemott 13 pts 6 rebs led the Roe Group, while Deron Gentle 12 pts 9 rebs and Maurice Martinez 9 pts 3 rebs was just not good enough for the Police. In game two, the Belize City Council extended their winning streak to four, as they knocked off Bowen and Bowen by the final score of 57-46. Kenroy “MVP” Usher continued his leadership play, totaling 15 pts 7 rebs in the win; he was followed closely by Joshua Jones 14 pts 2 rebs. The winless Bowen & Bowen were led by Milton Flores 11 pts 4 rebs and Wayne Jones 10 pts 4 rebs. In game three, Atlantic Bank Ltd. got by Guardian/Housing by the close score of 49-45, behind Justin Wade and Andrew “Head” Staine 14 pts 2 rebs each. Meanwhile, Bernard Felix led Guardian/Housing with 22 pts 3 rebs, followed by Dwayne Davis 13 pts 4 rebs.

Scores from games played over the weekend saw Tuff E Nuff narrowly getting by Guardian/Housing on Friday night, winning in the closing moments of the game by the final score of 67-63. Ashton Edwards 19 pts 2 rebs paced Tuff E Nuff, while Bernard Felix of Guardian/Housing was their high-man, totaling 17 pts 4 rebs. In the middle game, Port of Belize won their second game of the tournament, as they humiliated the once powerhouse Customs by the final score of 72-55. Ian “AC” Augustine had 23 pts 10 rebs in the win, while Charles Armstrong led Customs with 11 pts 10 rebs. In Friday’s nightcap game, it was BEL winning the battle of the utilities companies, as they handed BWSL their third loss of the season in a nail-biter, 37-35. Hershell Armstrong had 11 pts 6 rebs in the win, while Jamir Enriquez led BWSL with a meager 7 pts 5 rebs.

Sunday’s marathon, which featured six games on the ticket, saw Roe Group of Companies winning by the final score of 68-62 over KHMH, behind Glenstone Linares 16 pts 4 rebs and Francis Lemott 15 pts 2 rebs. For KHMH it was Norman Humes leading the way with 16 pts 8 rebs, followed by Ryan Miller with 12 pts 11 rebs. Belize City Council won over National Fire Service 65-57 in game two, as Kenroy “MVP” Usher threw up 21 pts 5 rebs, followed by Joshua Jones 20 pts 5 rebs. The Firemen, who with the loss fall under .500 ball, were led by Tyrone Palmerson 19 pts 6 rebs and Kenroy Roca 16 pts 7 rebs. In game three, the Police team got the better of Youth for the Future by the score of 50-38, thus ending their four game winning streak. Adrian Flores had a big game for the Police, totaling 18 pts 4 rebs, while Dwayne Davis led Youth for the Future with 21 pts 24 rebs. Game four of the day saw Ashton Edwards scoring a game high 29 pts for Tuff E Nuff Tours, as they walloped BWSL 72-40. BWSL, with the loss, fell to (1-3) on the year, and are just on the brink of post season elimination. They were led by Lawrence Young 8 pts 3 rebs. Guardian Housing won in game five of the day, 62-51, handing Alamilla’s /Cellular Plus their second loss of the season. Bernard Felix had 23 pts 4 rebs in the win, followed by Dwayne Davis 11 pts 11 rebs. Hoops News is a bit puzzled, though, as it seems that this guy, Dwayne Davis, is being allowed to play on two teams, namely Guardian/Housing as well as Youth for the Future. This is a first. In the final game of Sunday’s marathon, it was Atlantic Bank Ltd. winning in a close one over BEL, 46-40. Darwin “Dawgy” Eligio had 11 pts 3 rebs in the win, followed by Andrew “Head” Staine 10 pts 4 rebs. For BEL it was Brandon Cadle leading the way with 10 pts 8 rebs.
