BELIZE CITY, Wed. May 18, 2016–A man who sexually assaulted a child by touching her on the buttocks was sentenced to two months in prison today after he pleaded guilty to the offence when he was arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Ann Marie Smith.
Ashton Lambey, 26, a laborer and resident of Lake Independence, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault upon a 10-year-old girl.
Chief Magistrate Smith spared Lambey from the maximum 3-year sentence the offence carries when she sentenced him to two months in prison for his guilty plea, which saved the court the time it would have taken to conduct a trial.
The incident occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 15.
Court documents reveal that on Sunday, the child was at home doing her homework when an older sister asked her to go downstairs to get a broom.
The girl went downstairs to get the broom and met Lambey, who was holding the broom in his hand.
Lambey gave the girl the broom, but as she turned around to head back upstairs, Lambey touched her on the buttocks and told her not to tell anyone.
The child, however, told her 27-year-old sister, who had sent her for the broom, and the sister told their mother, who reported it to the police.
