BELIZE CITY, Mon. Dec. 16, 2019–The countdown is on for the 30th Krem New Year’s Day Cycling Classic, and the count for major station prizes secured is up to 8 in the Elite Male Category, for the most lucrative prize package in any cycling race for Belizean riders on the cycling calendar.

Today, race organizer Michael “Money Mike” Hyde of Krem Radio released the details of the eight major station prizes in this coming New Year’s Krem Classic, which travels from the northern “border to the boulevard” near Mahogany Street in Belize City, as follows:

(1) San Roman Village (where Gov’t House was located) – $1,000.00; sponsored by Freetown Drug Store.

(2) San Jose Village (Gas Station) – $1,000.00; sponsored by brothers Habet.

(3) Shell One Stop, Orange Walk – $2,000.00; sponsored by Hon. Johnny Briceno & Jaime Briceno.

(4) Smart Tower, Mile 46 – $1,000.00; sponsored by Anthony Mahler & the PUP Pickstock Committee.

(5) Mexico Creek, Mile 21 – $1,000.00; sponsored by Lopez Equipment Co. Ltd.

(6) Maskall Junction – $1,000.00; sponsored by Hon. Edmond Castro.

(7) National Concrete Products Compound, Mile 11 – $1,000.00; sponsored by National Concrete Products.

(8) Palm Grove Estate (Entrance) – $1,000.00; Belize City Council.

Two still very active veteran cyclists who rode in the first Krem Cycling Classic back in 1991, Michael “Big Mike” or “Big Wire” Lewis and Fitzgerald “Palas” or “Black Rocket” Joseph, will be making history by also riding in 2020’s 30th Krem New Year’s Cycling Classic. Big Mike was the champion in the first Krem Classic in 1991; and both men are determined to complete the journey one more time, even though their chances are considered “slim to none” at capturing any of the major station prizes.
