2 KHMH board members resign weeks apart

General2 KHMH board members resign weeks apart

Amandala has received confirmation of the resignation of two members of the Board of Directors of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) – albeit weeks apart.

In March of this year, Mrs. Milagro Garel reportedly tendered her resignation, while Mrs. Maude Sylvester reportedly departed last Thursday, May 8.

Yesterday, the chairperson of the KHMH Board of Directors, Chandra Nisbet-Cansino, told us that administering a board is sometimes challenging and oftentimes, there are disagreements between members; she cited, however, that those were not the reasons for the abrupt resignations.

She said, “Mrs. Milagro Garel resigned very early in March citing that – you know she is very active with her volunteer work with the World Pediatric Project – and her reason for resigning is that she may have taken on several other projects and she wants to spend all of her time with that; and Mrs. Maude Sylvester resigned at the last Board meeting but I have not [yet] received an official letter of resignation from her. Citing her long tenure, Mrs. Sylvester has been with the Board – I believe for about 6 years – and that was her reason for her resignation.”

Cansino stated that usually, the Board members are selected by the Minister of Health, and although replacements have not been named as yet, the administrators plan to replace them sooner rather than later.

According to the KHMH Chairperson, none of the persons who resigned have indicated that there was any dissent between them and other officials from the Board or the hospital, although we were informed that the resignations are possibly connected to discord with another Board member who has been in the spotlight before for questionable use of the KHMH’s finances.

“I have spoken to both of them and none of them have expressed that to me personally. Chairing and sitting on the Board of KHMH is very difficult; we all have our own differences at times during Board meetings, but I don’t know that to be the case and people just need to be reassured that under my chairmanship, the patients of KHMH come first and everything else comes second”, Cansino declared.
