BELIZE CITY, Mon. Aug 15, 2016–A release yesterday from the Police United Football Club said the team left Belize on Saturday for Puerto Cortez, Honduras, from where they would be travelling on to the capital, Tegucigalpa, for their scheduled Scotia Bank CONCACAF Champions League debut against Honduran champions, Olimpia on Tuesday night, August 16. Kick off time is 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
In their release, Police United FC listed their starting line-up as follows: #1 goalkeeper – Jose Santos; #8 striker – Carlton Thomas; #10 center midfield – Harrison Roches; #12 center back – Trevor Lennon; #13 center back – Amin August; #14 center midfield – Andres Makin; #16 striker – Daniel Jimenez; #17 right midfield – Devon Makin; #19 right back – Byron Usher; #23 center midfield – Amilton Filho; and #25 left back – Mailson Moura.
Brazilian Amilton Filho appeared with Belmopan Bandits in the last PLB season; while Jose Santos and Mailson Moura are reportedly new foreign additions.
After winning the 2015-2016 PLB Opening Season, the Police United FC team struggled in the Closing Season, losing in the semifinals. As overall champions in regular season total points between the two tournaments, Police United won the right to represent Belize in the upcoming Champions League tournament; but their work is “cut out” against Honduran champs, Olimpia, this Tuesday, and Mexican champs, Pachuca next week Tuesday, both games “on the road.”
The return matches will see Police United hosting Pachuca on Tuesday, September 9, and Olimpia on Thursday, September 29, in Belmopan.
