BELIZE CITY, Mon. Oct. 30, 2017–News that Cardinal Andrews, 28, had lost the fight for his life began to appear yesterday after 5:00 p.m. in posts on social media.

Andrews, who is the father of one child, was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Room, and was immediately put on life support in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit after he was shot in the head on Partridge Street on Wednesday, shortly before 4:00 p.m.

At the time of the shooting, Andrews was sitting on a small car on Partridge Street, in front of the house of one of his friends. It is presumed that he was waiting for his friend to come outside. When his friend did, it was in response to the all-too-familiar sound of gunshots.

Andrews’ friend saw him lying across the sidewalk, blood gushing from his forehead from a hole where a bullet had exited. On the ground beside him were fragments of bloody tissue.

A man from the neighborhood came and cradled an unconscious Andrews in his arms. A police mobile patrol unit quickly came upon the scene, and the critically injured Andrews was placed inside the pan of the police pickup truck.

As that police truck was about to leave for the hospital, another police vehicle came upon the scene. Someone from a crowd that had gathered mentioned to the policemen in the second pickup truck that the shooter was a small person, riding a small bicycle. He had ridden at high speed toward the junction of Partridge Street and the George Price Highway, and made a left turn, taking him towards the roundabout on Central American Boulevard.

With tires screeching, the police mobile took off in pursuit of the suspected shooter. Reportedly, there was no expended shell on the scene, which leads experts to believe that the fatal bullet was fired from a .38 revolver.

At this morning’s police press briefing, police would only say that there is a person of interest whom they are seeking, but so far no one has been arrested for Andrews’ shooting, which has now turned into a homicide investigation.
