Battle of the CONCACAF representatives – Wagiya FC

SportsBattle of the CONCACAF representatives - Wagiya FC

Bandits got 2 second-half goals to defeat ACROS by the score of 2-0. The game was locked at 0-0 throughout the first half. But the Bandits came out blazing in the second as Dion Frazer scored in the opening minute of the second half. Little past the midway point in the second half, Lionel Frazer scored to give Bandits the 2-0 lead.

ACROS continues to struggle in the goal department scoring only twice in the 5 games played. We are now past the mid-point in the tournament and they still have yet to win a game.

Meanwhile, Belmopan Bandits have snapped their 2-game losing streak and can now look towards better things.

Wagiya F.C vs Hankook Verdes

The key match-up for the weekend was definitely the match-up between the home team Wagiya FC and the visiting Hankook Verdes. This was an interesting match-up not only because they both top the standings as number 1 and 2 respectively, but also because both had recently been eliminated from the CONCACAF Champion?s Cup and football fans were dying to see these 2 teams go head-to-head.

Hankook Verdes led 1-0 going into the half from a goal by Marlon ?El Matador? Mesa in the 20thminute of play.

Early in the second half, Hankook?s goalkeeper Jaime Brooks had to be substituted due to an injury from a collision with a Wagiya player. Wagiya immediately launched into the offensive and Darwine Castillo scored the equalizer for Wagiya in the 53rdminute of play.

Hankook regained their composure and managed to hold off Wagiya for a while. Deep into the second half, Dean Flowers scored with only 4 minutes remaining in regulation to give Wagiya FC the 2-1 victory over Hankook Verdes.

With the victory, Wagiya FC maintains their stronghold on first place and extends their unbeaten streak to 5 games. Even though Hankook Verdes? win streak ends at 3 games, they still remain in second.

FC Belize vs Alpha

For the second week in a row, the young guns from ?Shuga City? Orange Walk, Alpha, visited the MCC Grounds in Belize City, this time to play FC Belize. The game on Sunday was just like a walk in the park. FC Belize dominated the action from the very first whistle and blanked Alpha by the score of 4-0.

Christopher Gilharry scored in the 25thminute of play to give FC the 1-0 lead. Mark ?Kelo? Leslie, who has not scored since the dark ages, scored in the 32ndminute to extend FC?s lead to 2 goals going into the half.

In the second half, Deon McCaulay converted a penalty kick for FC Belize in the 78thminute of play. Norman ?Tilliman? Pipersburgh capped off the scoring in the 81stminute with his first goal since joining FC Belize.

FC Belize remains in the third spot with 7 points and are now unbeaten in 3 games. Like ACROS Lake, Alpha continues to struggle with goals. They have also scored only 2 goals in 5 games and have yet to register a victory.
