The greatest travesty at these new talks reflects on the nameplate, which appeared before each representative at the negotiating table. Belize was referred to as ?Belice? – the Spanish name by which Guatemala lists The Jewel as its twenty third department. This demonstrates that either Belize?s chief negotiator?s negotiating prowess is limited, or he may be intentional in his method, which appears to be an ?Integrationist? approach?, thereby attempting to circumvent the Belizean people?s approval.

It is apparent that Guatemala?s plan may be to continue presenting a case (with the aid of Belize?s chief negotiator) which they believe will erode Belize?s position without agreeing to a resolution, believing that Guatemala will be better off, and thereafter taking the matter to the international court. Therefore, it is plain for the people to see that our negotiator started off this new round of talks on the wrong path by conceding Belize?s rightful name, compromising our sovereignty once again.
