The Belize Port Authority (BPA) has commenced operations to remove a vessel that grounded near Moho Caye this past week. According to a press release from the BPA, the marine vessel known as the Taza Mas was moved some 200 meters east of the location where it had run aground with the aid of lift bags.
Currently the Port Authority is awaiting additional equipment in order to continue its salvage operation “to ensure that it does not pose a threat to private properties and navigation.”
Moho Caye is a small island located 12 miles east of Placencia. It remains to be seen whether any of the coral reefs that surround the island were damaged by the grounding of the vessel.
