CAMALOTE, Cayo District, Sat. Apr. 3, 2021– The Hyde family in Camalote, which has been grappling with the violent deaths of several members of the family over the last few years, is mourning the loss of yet another loved one, and praying for the survival of another. On Saturday evening around 4:00, police visited the residence of the late Russell Hyde, where they found the lifeless body of his younger brother, Clifford Hyde. He had been shot by a lone gunman while leaving the premises and died on the scene.

His daughter, Anya Galvez, was shot in the head by the gunmen and rushed to the Western Regional Hospital before being transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH). She is in a critical condition at this time.

This murder is the latest in a string of fatal shootings that have taken the lives of one member after another of the Hyde family. Readers would recall the 2015 double murder of Russell Hyde and his girlfriend, Marcy Humes, which took place at the same residence at which this most recent murder occurred, on August 28, 2015.

Reports from the police are that Hyde got into an argument with another man who was present, along with Hyde, in a gathering of around 7 persons.

The Police Department’s ACP Joseph Myvett, Head of the National Crime Investigation Branch (NCIB), said that the gunman fired several shots at the two while they were leaving the scene, which caused the fatal and critical injuries.

He said that a number of persons were detained in connection with the investigation into the shootings and one was expected to be charged. That person has since been identified as Hugh Middleton of Roaring Creek Village.

The 26-year-old was arrested and charged by police for the murder of Clifford Hyde and the attempted murder of Anya Galvez and was arraigned inside the Belmopan Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

Clifford Hyde was recently released from prison, just four months ago, after serving a 15-year prison sentence for murder. He had been convicted for the murder of Allyson Castillo, which took place in 2004.
