GeneralErnesto Caliz, 64, remanded for allegedly sexually assaulting boy, 9

SAN PEDRO, Ambergris Caye, Thurs. July 11, 2019– Ernesto Caliz, a 64-year-old laborer of San Pedro, has been charged with sexual assault of a minor who is 9 years old. He was arraigned at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Court reports state that he was granted bail of $8,000 plus two sureties of $4,000 each; however, he was unable to meet bail and was remanded until September 12.

Police said that Caliz pulled down the little boy’s pants and kissed his buttocks, and the boy told his parents, and they went to police and made the report. Police said this was not the first time such an allegation was made against Caliz, that in December 2016, he was charged for molesting a 3-year-old child in San Pedro.

According to the San Pedro Sun, Caliz was denied bail, at the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court for that incident. He was a free man three days later, however, after being granted a Supreme Court bail of $5,000.

The outcome of the 2016 offense is not known. Caliz was an employee at the San Pedro Town Council, but he was dismissed from his job following the charge against him in December 2016.
