Two days after the incident, last Friday, September 16, one of the brothers, Jareth Tablada, a BDF soldier, was arrested and charged with common assault and throwing a missile, a beer bottle, at the sister. He pleaded not guilty and the case was adjourned until October 17.

But here goes the twist. The following day, Saturday, September 17, Ms. Gillett was arrested while standing at a bus stop in the village. Her charge ? causing a cut wound to the upper part of her brother?s back during the same Wednesday night altercation. She pleaded not guilty to the charge of wounding, was offered and met bail.

According to Gillett, the Wednesday night quarrel was because one of her daughters, who is underaged, had been certified by a doctor as being sexually active, and she believes that it is a 70-odd-year-old relative of the family who is molesting the girl. Gillett claims that the elder also molested her when she was a child.

Gillett says that her brother, Tablada, came to her house upset that she was accusing his relative of the heinous crime.

Our reports say that the girl had initially said that it was her stepfather, her mother?s common-law husband, who was molesting her; but she later changed her story. Gillett stands by her man, and insists that it is the elderly relative.

Today, the mother of eight only has two of her children living with her. Two of her daughters, ages five and 11, were last week placed with an aunt by the Social Services Department; and two of her other children, ages eight and 13, live with her mother and stepfather.

Gillett is fearful that she may lose more of her children because of the court case.

In the meantime, none of the other two brothers or the cousin has been charged as a result of Gillett?s statement to the police about her beating,and no one has been charged for child molestation.
