His associate, 17, hospitalized for gunshot wounds

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Mar. 28, 2019– At about 6:00 yesterday morning, Wednesday, a brazen gunman or gunmen crossed a “London Bridge” in the Gungulung area in Lake Independence and went into a house, where they opened fire on two young men who were sleeping. After the barrage of gunshots interrupted the peaceful Wednesday morning, two men were seen, by neighbors who were alarmed by the gunshots, walking back on the “London Bridge” to M&M Street, from the direction of the house. The men then disappeared from the scene.

Police found Jordan Lorenzo, 22, a resident of Dangriga, lying on a mattress in the living room of the house, with gunshot wounds in his head, chest and back. He was motionless and was declared dead on the scene.

Police also found a minor, 17, also of Dangriga, in the house. He was suffering with gunshot wounds in his back, thigh, leg, ankle and arm.

Cruz was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a BERT ambulance, in a serious but stable condition.

On our visit to the scene, the neighbors told us that the two persons who were shot were unknown to them. They are of the belief that the young man and the minor were hiding in the house. They also told us that the two men seen coming off the London Bridge after the shooting also are unknown to them and were not from the area.

The house where the young man and the minor were shot is about 150 feet from M&M Street, a short distance for the shooters to walk on the “London Bridge” to the house.

A policeman told us that a crowbar was found on the stairs of the house, and they believe this was used to forcibly open the door.

During the regular weekly police press brief held this morning at the Raccoon Street Police Station, ACP Joseph Myvette said that the Lorenzo and the minor travelled from Dangriga to Belize City with a man on Tuesday, and was staying in the house with him to conduct a drug transaction.
