BELIZE CITY, Wed. Nov. 3, 2021 — Officially founded in 1887, St. John’s College, a Jesuit educational institution which has primarily provided high school education and Associate degree programs and has served as an educational bridge for high school students seeking a two-year degree before embarking on overseas studies, will now be offering Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. An inaugural ceremony was held on the grounds of the school to celebrate the expansion.

At the ceremony, the president of St. John’s College stated, “Today in recognition of the work of those humble servants of St. John’s College [the Jesuits], especially Father Leo Webber, who will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of his final vows on Saturday, November sixth, I am very pleased to announce that seventy years after the opening of the sixth form division, St. John’s College will once again enter a transformative phase, as we have been granted full and formal approval by the Ministry of Education for the vertical expansion of our program offerings to include studies at the Bachelor’s and graduate degree levels, with effect from January 1, 2022.”

The expansion process began nearly eight months ago, and the school’s plans were reportedly assessed thoroughly by the Ministry of Education until they were deemed satisfactory.

The college also unveiled a newly revamped logo which replaces the prior “Belize City” subtext with “Belize” to signify the internationalization and expansion of the St. John’s College’s brand.

The school has not yet made known the specific programs that will be offered in January 2022, but they have expressed their intention to offer many-high demand STEM courses such as sustainable development, environment, health sciences, engineering programs, and technology; as well as business administration.

Also accompanying the big expansion, was the inauguration of Stochl Hall, or the SJC Extension Building.
