Texmar and Lake-Collet score big in Week 8 of Belize Bank Super League tournament

SportsTexmar and Lake-Collet score big in Week 8 of Belize Bank Super League tournament
Following a two-week break due to the heavy rains and flooding, Super League football resumed this past weekend with five games yesterday, and it was league leading Texmar Boys and newcomers Lake-Collet Survivors racking up the big scores on their opponents, tallying 6 and 5 goals, respectively.

At the MCC Grounds in Belize City, it was bad news for the visiting Tsunami from Caye Caulker who met an inspired and rejuvenated Lake-Collet Survivors under new head coach Michael “Wataplat” Flowers, and it was Lake-Collet all over Tsunami, to the tune of 5 goals to 1. Albert Arnold opened the scoring for Lake-Collet at the 19th minute, but Tsunami’s Rupert Smith replied at the 25th. From there on it was all Lake-Collet Survivors, who got goals from Guadalupe Triquenu (39 min), Albert Arnold again (80 min), David McCaulay, Sr. (85 min) and Ashton Lewis (89 min).

The other City team, Kraal Road F.C. was not so fortunate, however, as they travelled all the way to the San Felipe Football Field to receive a 3-1 beating from home standing San Felipe Barcelona, who are now firmly in 2nd place in the standings. Lorenzo Diaz put Kraal Road in front at the 11th minute, but Harvey Cruz tied it up for San Felipe at the 22nd minute, followed by Jorge Rauno at the 43rd and Kenny Witzil at the 65th, for the 3-1 home team victory.

Down south at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, it was scoreless into the second half between home squad Valley Renaissance and visiting Lucky Strike Black Orchid, until the 73rd minute when Lucky Strike’s Frederick Garbutt shook the Valley’s net for the 1-nil score and the win.

League leading Texmar Boys took the westward journey to the Norman Broaster Stadium where they brought a six goal gift package for the home standing Western Rebels F.C., who remain in last place. As expected, it was all Texmar, with goals coming from Paul Linarez (15 and 35 min), Norman Pipersburg (43 min), Gilmore Palacio (60 min), Lyndon Brooks (70 min) and Victor Franco (82 min). The Rebels got their consolation goal from Alfonso Diaz at the 88th minute, for the final 6-1 score.
It was not all bad news out west, though, as Cayo South United ably defended their turf at the Roaring Creek Field, turning back the visiting Barrio Fino Corozal with a 3-1 Cayo South victory. Barrio Fino got an early lead from Elionar Vargas at the 16th minute, but Enrique Tamai tied it up for Cayo South at the 36th and Joshua Richards added another at the 42nd to take the 2-1 Cayo South lead into the intermission. Roddy Ramirez put the icing on the cake at the 65th minute, for the final score, 3-1, Cayo South over Barrio Fino.
