GeneralUDP to install Faber as party leader-elect next Thursday

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Oct. 1, 2020– A release yesterday from the ruling United Democratic Party (UDP) sets next Thursday, October 8, as the date for the official launch of their 2020 general elections campaign. The virtual launch starts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, and will be aired on national television and streamed on Facebook.

The highlight of the launch will be the installation of new UDP leader-elect, Hon. Patrick Faber, along with the presentation of their 31 candidates for the upcoming elections.

In conjunction with the installation of Faber, the UDP release also says there will be an official farewell to outgoing UDP leader, Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow.

However, according to a Channel 5 interview last night with Attorney General/UDP chairman Michael Peyrefitte, Barrow will remain as Prime Minister until the general elections are held.

No official word has been given yet, but it is widely suspected that the election date will also be announced at that estimated 3-hour virtual event next Thursday, or shortly thereafter, so that the party’s leader-elect can take full charge of their campaign for an unprecedented fourth consecutive UDP general elections victory.

Of course, the PUP, as well as the third parties, BPP and BPF, have other ideas.
