The Right Honorable George Cadle Price died at the Belize Health Partners Hospital this morning, Monday, 19th September 2011, after a fall and a short illness. He was 92 years old. A few days ago, he suffered a fall at his family home on Pickstock Street, where he lived all his life. He struck his head on the floor, which caused a blood clot on his brain.
Mr. Price found his mission, when, along with other patriots, they began the movement of liberation, following an incident which showed disdain by the colonial British administration for the people of the colony of Belize. The movement began in 1949 and ended with the Independence of Belize, thirty-two years later on 21st September 1981. He was our nation’s first Prime Minister.
Mr. Price is acknowledged as the Father of the Nation and he was declared our first National Hero. He was an accomplished politician, poet, actor and musician but, above all, he was a faithful servant of his people and his God.
He was much loved and revered by his “Fellow Belizeans,” as he usually addressed them at public meetings. Their devotion was returned with interest.
From his early years, he chose the Divinity as his model, which made him A Good Shepherd.
