BELIZE CITY, Mon. Jan. 27, 2020– Gearing up for its annual March spectacular, the La Ruta Maya River Challenge, the Belize Canoe Association held a primer event yesterday, Sunday, named the Cuello’s Distillery Ltd. Upstream Haulover to Boom Canoe Race. As the name indicated, the race started at the Haulover Bridge and culminated at the Burrell Boom landing near the Boom bridge. The race sponsors included: Cuello’s Distillery Ltd., Universal Hardware, Peters Glass Shop, and AyinHa Adventure Tours.

Some 16 paddling teams in various categories started and completed the approximately 15-mile journey, with the NICH team comprising Alex Cruz, Efrain Cruz and Felix Cruz crossing the finish line first in 2:05:17 (2 hours, 6 minutes, 17 seconds). Below is the finishing order for the 16 finishers, including their particular rank by race category.
