BELIZE CITY, Mon. Oct. 25, 2021 –Over the weekend, CIB investigators arrested and charged a man in Placencia in connection with the October 17 death of Ian Westby, who was murdered in Belize City.

Akeem Augustine was nabbed by police on one count of murder and will join Leon Garcia, who reportedly carried out the fatal shooting of Westby, at the Belize Central Prison.

Ian Westby, a resident of Placencia, was last seen near his uncle’s car wash in Belize City before leaving to talk with a man who had approached the premises of Westby’s uncle’s establishment. He was later found slumped over the steering wheel on a vehicle in the area.

Akeem Augustine is to be arraigned in the courts and remanded. He is the second person charged in connection with Westby’s death, but still, police have not indicated the motive for the murder and have said that sharing that information could jeopardize the case.
