Why not build up

I have one question about this progress slated for the old Belize Technical College compound. Why are they not building…up? These people are architects, engineers, they know how to build. If it is a matter that they are looking at the present structures for their historical value, then they could easily “fly over” their basketball court. And with only a few more dollars they’d also have an all-weather gym. To say that they will be using only a small piece of the playground is just saafly, saafly.

Why not build up

The Editor Amandala

Sir,

I have one question about this progress slated for the old Belize Technical College compound. Why are they not building?up? These people are architects, engineers, they know how to build. If it is a matter that they are looking at the present structures for their historical value, then they could easily ?fly over? their basketball court. And with only a few more dollars they?d also have an all-weather gym. To say that they will be using only a small piece of the playground is just saafly, saafly.

Stop referring to us Maya as ?aliens?

Mr. Russell Vellos

Dear Sir,

Each ethnic group is free to start their history on that land that we call Belize from any date. But for the national anthem, flag and history, that should start from as far as we can reach or investigation can take us. The history of the land of Belize did not start with the arrival of the Baymen pirates. That was the beginning of another era. Nor did the history of Cuba start with Fidel Castro.

Letter from a Southside teenager

Dear Mr. Editor:

Please allow me, a sixteen-year-old, to have a word with the leaders of our country. I have something I would really like to get off my chest.

Dear Politicians:

Please excuse my impoliteness. I know my letter might come across as being rude, but when a person is angry, he usually has little control over his words. I am angry. I know Belizeans blame you for everything; but if we are not to blame you, then whom else should we blame? I personally don?t know who else to blame for our devastation.

70 at Compre spells trouble for rural kids

Teachers at the Belmopan Comprehensive School have expressed an interest in upping the passing grade at Compre to 70%. The Compre brain trust has explained that the present passing grade, 50%, places Compre students at a disadvantage when they are seeking to matriculate to other high schools, to junior college, or to the University of Belize.

Anna tells police to “get their act in place”

I am writing in compliance with the headlines of your newspaper for this week. I, as a Belizean, and I am sure many people feel as I do, am tired of all this police brutality. There are many complaints and many unknown cases of police brutality going on in Belize and there is no justice for the person being brutalized.

Sir,

I refer to a letter dated October 25, 2006 sent to me on your behalf by your attorney, Mr. Linbert L. Willis, copied to the Amandala newspaper and published in their issue of October 29, 2006, demanding a public apology for part of the contents of my article entitled ?BELOW THE SURFACE? published in the Amandala of October 22, 2006.

Denzil Jenkins on Ricardo Escalante?s ?Proposed transaction with Bluewaters of Trinidad?

?For his courageous stand against the Agreement, he was removed from the CPBL team negotiating, with the Caribbean Investors.?

Editor Amandala

I would like to thank again the Committee of Five for the many long hours given to producing the Report on the Investment Agreement between BWPL Holding Limited and Citrus Products of Belize Limited (CPBL) and Belize Citrus Growers Association Investment Company Limited (ICL).

Land of the poor

Editor Amandala

Dear Sir,

In one of our gatherings at our Corozal Central Park office, one of our commentators said that, ?The General Accountant of the Treasury Department, Ms. Betson, is supposed to know about the widows and orphans fund.? Another one said that ?all the money that the government receives (revenue) goes into one big bag without any bottom, and this money is used for the development of the country.? Someone said that, ?There are civil servants that have benefited from this big bag of money.? Another one said that, ?The quisling intellectuals have been the hatchet and advisors of the Ministers.?

Mr. Denzil Jenkins remains vigilant

The Editor AMANDALA

Dear Sir,

Because the forces of deception are so relentless, I am compelled to write again. The Amandala issue of Sunday, October 15, 2006 carried a press release by the Management of the Citrus Growers Association [CGA] which had a number of subtleties, presumably intended to deceive citrus growers and the public, namely:

GOB demands KREM radio time

The Government of Belize through its Press Office will this week launch a new one hour bimonthly radio/television program entitled: “What’s Up with Government”.

Uh Luna discusses discrimination

Editor AMANDALA

Dear Sir,

I was surprised and shock when I read in the Amandala on its front page this Wednesday, September 27, 2006, the article entitled, ?Racial discrimination at Belmopan City Chinese restaurant? Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh: I feel a victim of racism.?

Re: Isaiah Morter estate

Editor AMANDALA

Dear Editor,

The recent article in the Amandala newspaper, referring to the late Isaiah Morter?s estate is a most interesting and timely one indeed!

This story raises the question of the proper administration of justice as it relates to the holding of private property in Belize, whether one leaves a legitimate will or not, and to the testators? wishes or specification of any such will.

D. Jenkins discusses the citrus industry battle

The Editor Amandala

Dear Sir,

Before the Supreme Court of Belize City today, S.C. Rodwell Williams, attorney-at-law for the William Bowman, Ernest Raymond and Henry Canton group of directors, objected to the standing of Citrus Products of Belize Ltd [CPBL] shareholder, Oscar Ramirez, who was asking that the application to reduce CPBL?s share capital be delayed until after the 5-man committee elected by the citrus growers on 16 September 2006 had completed its report.
