2015 National Primary Schools Volleyball Champions

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Dec. 10, 2015–The National Primary Schools Volleyball Championship was held last Friday, December 4, at the Belize Elementary Gym and Star’s Volleyball Gym in Belize City; and both Stann Creek girls and boys teams emerged as national champions.

There were six teams each participating in the male and female divisions, being the champion teams from the six districts. These were:

MALES (M): Belize Elementary (Belize); Howard Smith Nazarene (Cayo); Louisiana Gov’t (Orange Walk); Mary Hill RC (Corozal); St. Matthews Anglican (Stann Creek); and San Vicente RC (Toledo).

FEMALES (F): Belize Elementary (Belize); Our Lady of Guadalupe RC (Cayo); Chan Pine Ridge Gov’t (Orange Walk); Church of Christ Primary (Corozal); Holy Angels RC (Stann Creek); and Toledo Christian Academy (Toledo). In the first round, both the female and male teams were separated into groups of three, which then played a round robin, and the top two from each female group, and likewise the top two from each male group, went on to the knockout semifinals.

In first round games, (F) Toledo Christian Academy defeated Our Lady of Guadalupe RC, 25-23, 28-30, 15-12; (M) San Vicente RC def. Howard Smith Nazarene, 25-22, 25-17; (F) Chan Pine Ridge Gov’t def. Church of Christ Primary, 25-12, 25-17; (M) Mary Hill RC def. Louisiana Gov’t, 25-18, 25-15; (F) Toledo Christian Academy def. Holy Angels RC, 16-25, 25-10, 15-12; (M) San Vicente RC def. St. Matthews Anglican, 25-20, 25-21; (F) Chan Pine Ridge Gov’t def. Belize Elementary, 27-25, 22-25, 15-8; (M) Louisiana Gov’t def. Belize Elementary, 25-17, 20-25, 15-13; (F) Holy Angels RC def. Our Lady of Guadalupe RC, 25-8, 25-18; (M) St. Matthews Anglican def. Howard Smith Nazarene, 25-23, 25-15; (F) Belize Elemenary def. Church of Christ Primary, 25-13, 25-16; and (M) Belize Elementary def. Mary Hill RC, 25-9, 18-25, 16-15.

The semifinals saw (F) Toledo Christian Academy defeating Belize Elementary, 25-11, 19-25, 15-3; (M) San Vicente RC def. Mary Hill RC, 25-14, 25 -15; (F) Holy Angels RC def. Chan Pine Ridge Gov’t, 25-15, 25-9; (M) St. Matthews Anglican def. Belize Elementary, 25-15, 18-25, 15-8.

Next were the “consolation” third place matches, and (F) Belize Elementary def. Chan Pine Ridge Gov’t, 25-18, 25-9; and (M) Belize Elementary def. Mary Hill RC, 25-19, 26-24.

And in the championship matches, (F) Holy Angels RC won over Toledo Christian Academy, 25-20, 25-22; and (M) St. Matthews Anglican edged San Vicente RC, 25-15, 26-24.

The final results were therefore:

FEMALE: 1st Place – Holy Angels RC (Stann Creek); 2nd Toledo Christian Academy (Toledo); and 3rd Belize Elementary (Belize).

MALE: 1st Place – St. Matthews Anglican (Stann Creek); 2nd San Vicente RC (Toledo); and 3rd Belize Elementary (Belize).

Female MVP was Switzvannie Salas of Holy Angels RC (Stann Creek).

And Male MVP was Mark Roches, Jr. of St. Matthews Anglican (Stann Creek).
