SportsBelize U-15 wins bronze in COCABA Championship

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Apr. 19, 2018– The Belize Basketball Federation (BBF) congratulates the Under 15 Boys National Basketball Team for securing bronze medals in the COCABA Championship (Central America) held in El Salvador from April 11 to 15.

Against very competitive opponents, our team played with spirit, determination and focus, ending the tournament with a record of 3 wins and 2 losses.

Our boys all played well, and two of our players received special recognition for top tournament performances in four of the seven categories awarded. Nikai Jex Martinez received awards for most assists and most steals, and Izid Lopez received awards for most overall points scored and the highest three-point shooting efficiency.

The top three finishers (Panama, Costa Rica & Belize) from this tournament will now move on to the U15 CENTROBASKET tournament to be played in Panama in late August, where they will face Mexico and top finishers from the Caribbean region. Preparation for this tournament has now commenced.

The BBF is a non-profit organization which relies on donations and sponsorship support from the government, the business community and the public at large. We would like to thank the following, who provided assistance and support for this tournament: St. Catherine Academy, the National Sports Council, the Belize City Council, Joseph & Taylor Ltd., Mr. Raul Rosado, and Mr. Doyle Flowers.

We would also like to say special thanks to the parents and families of the boys for their unstinting support to these young ambassadors throughout their preparation and competition journey.
