CSSSA high school football playoffs begin today

SportsCSSSA high school football playoffs begin today

The Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) 2014 high school football competition, which kicked off less than a month ago on Wednesday, January 8, began its semifinal playoffs today for both females (F) and males (M) at the MCC Grounds.

Five (5) female teams and sic (6) male teams participated in the tournament, the females playing a double round-robin, while the males played a single round-robin in the regular competition. The semifinals and finals will both be best-of-2 games series.

Semifinals Round 1

In the female semifinal this evening, #1 seed Wesley College and #4 seed Excelsior High played to a scoreless, 0-0, draw. The male semifinal which followed was also a draw; this time the score was 1-1, with #1 seed SJC taking the lead on a goal by Sydney Bradley, and #4 seed Wesley equalizing with a goal from Keeyon Lewis.

Two more first round semifinals are scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, followed by a rest day on Wednesday.

Tues. Jan. 28 – (F) #2 Gwen Liz vs #3 SCA; (M) #2 ACC vs #3 Gwen Liz

Semifinals Round 2

The same teams that played today will meet again in Round 2 of the semifinals on Thursday; while those playing on Tuesday will return to action on Friday.
