3 on 3 basketball

Coming up this Saturday, February 22, will be the first ever Gary Francisco Rep Your Wood 3 on 3 Basketball Marathon, sponsored by Frank Pawpa Mena. Rep Your Wood means represent your area. This Marathon will take place at Ghans Basketball Court at 9:30 a.m. Registration is free. There is only one prize, which is $200.00, the winner takes it all.

There will be special cash prizes for the best free throw and 3-point shooter.

This Gary Francisco 3 on 3 Basketball Marathon will take place every last Saturday in every month at different basketball courts in Dangriga.

Mr. T. Birthday Classic

Also coming up this Sunday, February 23, will be the 5th Annual Mr. T. Birthday Classic. This race will start (and finish) in front of Wadani Shed at 10:30 a.m. and head all the way on the Southern Highway to Kendal Bridge and back. First place gets $300.00; 2nd $200.00; 3rd $100.00. Registration is only $5.00. Station prizes will also be provided going and coming.

This is an open race for riders from all over the country of Belize who want to take part. Riders can contact Mr. T. at 662-3310 or Mose Lopez at 625-4022 for more information.

2014 Mayor’s Cup

Coming up on the 9th of March will be the opening of the 2014 Stann Creek District Mayor’s Cup football tournament, which is sponsored by Travellers and Belikin.

This year’s Mayor’s Cup tournament will be named the 2014 Classic Gold Mayor’s Cup Tournament.

Only 14 teams will be accepted to take part. This will be a short tournament because we need to finish before the start of the World Cup.

The tournament will start with a Grand Marathon on the 9th of March at 10:30 a.m. at the Carl Ramos Stadium.

Prizes for the Marathon will be 1st place $1,000.000, 2nd $500.00, and 3rd $300.00.

Prizes for the regular season are $5,000.00 for 1st place, 2nd $2,500.00, and 3rd $1,000.00. These cash prizes include team trophies and medals.

All amateur teams in Dangriga and surrounding villages, just stay tuned for more information coming up, and be prepared and get ready for a short competitive season.

High school softball

In the zone softball competition on Monday, Stann Creek Ecumenical (SCEC) females beat Delille Academy females, 4-2; and SCEC males beat Delille males, 10-9. With this win, SCEC males qualify for the regional softball tournament, scheduled for March 1 in Independence Village, to be hosted by Independence High School. SCEC females lead their series 2 to 1, while the boys won 3 to 0 in the best of 5 games.

Basketball excursion to Cayo

The Dangriga Basketball Association is taking an excursion to Cayo to witness Griga Warriors vs Cayo Western Ballers this Saturday, February 22. The cost is $12.00 round trip, which does not cover the cost to enter the game. The bus returns immediately after the game. To make reservations, call 610-0444, 631-3057 or 622-7018.
