BELIZE CITY, Tues. Mar. 1, 2016–A 24-year-old man was remanded to the Belize Central Prison this morning after he was arraigned on a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith.
Deshane McDougal, 24, was not required to enter a plea, because the offence of unlawful sexual intercourse is indictable. If the Crown can establish that it has a prima facie case against McDougal after a preliminary inquiry is held at the Magistrate’s Court, his case will be sent to the Supreme Court for trial.
The allegation against McDougal is that on January 12, he had sex with a 14-year-old girl. The girl, accompanied by her mother, reported the matter to police.
McDougal will return to court on June 2.
