Manuel “El Pelon” Castillo on Interpol’s wanted list

InternationalManuel “El Pelon” Castillo on Interpol’s wanted list

Belizean-born fugitive, Manuel Mendez Castillo, 37, also known as “El Pelon”, who is currently wanted by Belizean authorities in connection with two recent murders, has been put on the wanted list for the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), who issued a bulletin for his arrest on its website yesterday.

Castillo, who is a deportee previously residing in the Orange Walk District, is believed to have fled to either neighboring Guatemala or Mexico, along with his pregnant common-law wife, 25-year-old Avicela Duran.

Castillo has been fingered as the mastermind behind the brutal killings of Ramon Cervantes, Sr., 71, and Sonia Maribel Abac, 46, who were both believed to have been kidnapped and violently slain by Castillo and/or his associates in Orange Walk within the past few weeks.

Cervantes, Sr., a popular businessman and former mayor of Orange Walk Town, was abducted from his cane field on July 1, and his remains were discovered in a shallow grave near Honey Camp several days later, on July 5.

Abac was reported missing since April 23, and her remains were retrieved from a well in the same area last Wednesday, July 9, after the suspects in Cervantes’ killing directed authorities to the location, where she had been buried in the well.

Those suspects, who happen to be three villagers from Trial Farm in Orange Walk – Guatemalan Noe Daniel Gonzalez, 22; Belizeans Mateo Pott, Jr., 28, and Angel Antonio Cardenas, 19 – were all arrested, charged and remanded for the kidnapping and murder of Cervantes, Sr. last Wednesday, but they are yet to face charges for Abac’s heinous murder.

Both Belizean and international authorities are trying to determine the whereabouts of “El Pelon.”

Castillo, who has a tattoo of Jesus Christ on the left arm and a tattoo of several images on the right arm, is considered armed and dangerous.

He is of Mestizo decent, and is about 5 feet 9 inches in height.

Anybody who sees Castillo or knows his whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately, or crime stoppers at 922-TIPS.
